After shooting an 8 under par round of 62, Brad Burns has taken out the 2014 Bartons/BMD Wynnum Pro-Am, Australia’s richest one day Pro-Am.

""With the event celebrating its 35th Anniversary, the Bartons/BMD Wynnum Pro-Am is one of the longest running Pro-Ams in the country. It’s $60,000 prize purse also makes it one of the richest event’s in the PGA’s history bringing the likes of Rod Pampling, Steven Bowditch, Marc Leishman, Michael Sim and Rachel Hetherington to the Wynnum layout.

"We are extremely proud to have so many great players come back to play our event each year, showing that our commitment over a long period of time is appreciated amongst the professional ranks" said co-naming rights sponsor Doug Barton.

"We are very proud to have the likes of Peter Senior, Andre Stolz, Terry Price and Peter McWhinney win our tournament over the years and we can’t help but feel some type of ownership seeing them win around the world after starting from humble beginnings."

Brad Burns, a prolific winner on the QLD Sunshine Tour with more than 30 victories made birdies on five of his first six holes and with further birdies on his 8th, 10th, 11th and 13th holes, found himself 9 under par through just 13 holes. Two bogies in his closing holes including one at the last, saw him card a 62 and win by 2 shots from Jason Norris.

"No one is more surprised than myself. I have played here dozens of times and never really putted any good though today they dropped, to the point that the hole felt as big as a bucket" said Burns.

"Full credit must go to Mick Power and Doug Barton. Their dedication to professional golf over the last 35 years is unbelievable and myself, and all of the professionals are forever indebted for their commitment."

For many of the PGA Professionals, Wednesday’s Oxley Pro Am will be their next stop, while others will venture to Noosa Springs for the first stage of PGA Tour of Australasia Qualifying School in an effort to secure playing rights for 2015.
