After two solid weeks on the PCR Polyweld Mining Town Series, Mitchell Brown has won the inaugural Pines Capricorn Coast Invitational at Yeppoon Golf Course in Queensland.

""A 7-under 64 in yesterday’s opening round saw Brown start round two shared for the lead alongside Callan O’Reilly and Yeppoon local, Adam Blyth.

Brown fired up early making birdie at two of his opening three holes and remained solid over his closing holes finishing with a 3-under 68 and one shot ahead of O’Reilly.

It has all come together for Brown over the past 12 months finishing regularly near the top of the leaderboard on the Choice Hotels PGA Pro-Am Series.

"What an amazing feeling it is to win here today at The Pines Capricorn Coast Invitational. I couldn’t have predicted the perfect end after what has been an enjoyable three weeks in the mining towns regions," said Brown.

"The win for me is a step in the right direction, as I look towards going to an international qualifying school later in the year. I know there is a lot of hard work ahead of me, but for now I am just going to enjoy this moment and let the win sink in."

Although disappointed to have finished second for the third straight event, O’Reilly was happy with where his game was at and even happier for his New South Wales companion to take the win.

"It has again been a solid two days for me here at Yeppoon and although I am a little disappointed at the moment not to have won, I am really happy for Mitch to pick up the victory."

The Pines Capricorn Coast Invitational is the first of two events the Yeppoon Golf Club will host in 2015. The Southern Great Barrier Reef Golf Classic will be played for the very first time in late July, with 72 Professionals from Australia and New Zealand competing for the $55,000 prize purse.

Although it has been five long weeks on the road for many of the Professionals, 26 of them will now make their way across the pacific to compete in the Qantas Fiji Teams Challenge starting at the picturesque Natadola Bay Golf Club on Monday. Blake McGrory will not be returning to defend his title from 2014, though current MLC Advice Nundah Sunshine Swing Order of Merit leader Tim Hart will be the one to beat before embarking on a couple of weeks break.
