Adam Blyth has made the most of the calm morning conditions to card a seven under par 64, to hold a one shot lead following the opening round of the New Pioneer Motors City of Mackay Open.

Adam Blyth has made the most of the calm morning conditions to card a seven under par 64, to hold a one shot lead following the opening round of the New Pioneer Motors City of Mackay Open.

""The former Web.com Tour player recorded eight birdies on day one, with only a blemish coming at the 400-metre par 4, third hole.

Chris Gaunt and Gavin Flint sit tied for second after a the pair shot 65’s, while pre tournament favourites, Steven Jeffress and Michael Sim carded 67’s and three shots behind Blyth.

"I am really happy with the way I played today, I made a few putts early which got me going in the right direction," commented Blyth following his round.

"There is a quality field playing in Mackay, so although you can’t win after today’s opening round, you can certainly put yourself out of contention."

"The course is in really great condition and I am looking forward to making the most of my good start over the next three days."

Round two will commence tomorrow morning at 6:50am, with Blyth, Flint and Gaunt due to tee off at 12:10pm.
