Five birdies and an eagle has young Victorian Adam Burdett in the lead early at the Latrobe City WIN Network Traralgon Pro-Am.

""The field took to the Traralgon Golf Club Thursday for the 27th straight year with Burdett jumping out of the blocks.

Burdett fresh from his recent top five finish in the Coca-Cola Queensland PGA Championship a few weeks ago managed to keep his form going with an impressive 6-under 66 to take the round one lead.

His round looked on track from the start when he made the turn 4-under which was highlighted by three birdies and an eagle.  Burdett steadied on the back nine with birdies on 11 and 18 to finish two shots clear of Jack Wilson and Ashley Blake both on 4-under 68.

In form players Simon Hawkes (3-under 69) and Peter Wilson (1-under 71) are still in the hunt heading into round two. Both have shown in recent pro-am’s their ability to shoot extremely low numbers and Burdett will have to be on his game when round two tees off today.

The three female Professionals in the field put in strong performances to stay within touch of the leaders, Ali Orchard’s even par 72 set a new ladies course record.

Headline acts European Tour Player Nathan Holman (75) and local hero David Bransdon (76) both found the going tough in the afternoon and have the job well and truly ahead of them on Friday.

The Latrobe City WIN Network Traralgon sees Professionals from all over Australia competing for a share of $22,000.  Round two commences at 7.30am Friday morning with the winner set to be decided around 5.30pm.
