Western Australia has been the focus of Australian golf throughout October with the WA Goldfields PGA Championship rounding out three big weeks for the PGA Tour of Australasia in the west.

For the third consecutive year, Kalgoorlie Golf Course, one of Australia’s most spectacular and unique layouts will host the WA Goldfields PGA Championship from 30 October -2 November.

Leading into the week we have already seen two tournaments run and won in an impressive display of golfing talent.

New Zealand’s Ryan Fox claimed the John Hughes Nexus Risk Services WA Open Championship by an emphatic six shots.

While it was Danish hotshot Thorbjorn Olesen who won the ISPS HANDA Perth International which was co-sanctioned by the European Tour.

These events have set the tone for the last tournament of the PGA Tour of Australasia’s west coast swing and we are expecting more quality golf to unfold on the fairways this week.

Bringing over 100Professionals to the state, the WA Goldfields PGA Championship provides an important opportunity for the players to kick-start their summer schedules with the biggest tournaments still to be played.

In addition to the prize money on offer this week the winner will earn Official World Golf Rankings points but most importantly will secure a place in the Australian Masters,Emirates Australian Open and the Australian PGA Championship where AU$3.25millionis on offer.

But it isn’t just the players who benefit from the WA Goldfields PGA Championship, so to do sports fans in the area.

"Western Australia has produced some of Australia’s best golfers and it’s fitting that the state will be the focal point for golf during October," said Brian Thorburn, Chief Executive Officer of the PGA of Australia.

"With three weeks back-to-back, the West Australian swing is increasingly popular with both the Professionals and amateurs and delivers substantial benefit to the state’s economy."

"To be hosted by three of Western Australia’s best and most unique courses, we’re very pleased with the quality of all three tournament fields and encourage fans to get out and support golf in their own backyard."

With a promising line up of both experienced and up-and-coming players the field for the WA Goldfields PGA Championship will feature defending champion Jack Wilson, Web.com Tour players James Nitties, Nathan Green and Ashley Hall, Fiji International champion Steven Jeffress and two time Australian
Masters champion Brad Hughes.

Western Australia will be represented by nine time PGA Tour of Australasia winner Kim Felton, Rick Kulacz, Daniel Fox, and Michael Foster, and the state’s highest ranked amateurs Jarryd Felton and Ben Ferguson as well as Kalgoorlie Golf Club’s club champion,15-year-old Joshua Fewkes.

Another player to watch out for is South Australian amateur Anthony Murdaca, he won the Asian Amateur Championship played at Royal Melbourne Golf Club last week.

With his win Murdaca has secured himself an invitation to The Masters Golf Tournament in 2015.

From the fairways of one of Australia’s most internationally renowned golf courses straight to Kalgoorlie, Murdaca will display the golfing talent which has him gracing the hallowed fairways of Augusta National next year.

Following the WA Goldfields PGA Championship the PGA Tour of Australasia will take a week off before heading to Sydney for the NSW Open.
