The summer of golf in Australia tees off this week with the PGA Tour of Australasia having arrived in Perth for the John Hughes Nexus Risk Services WA Open Championship.

The summer of golf in Australia tees off this week with the PGA Tour of Australasia having arrived in Perth for the John Hughes Nexus Risk Services WA Open Championship.

Being played at Cottesloe Golf Club the John Hughes Nexus Risk Services WA Open Championship will be contested from 16 – 19 October with a prize purse of $100,000 and Official World Golf Ranking points on offer.

New Zealander Josh Geary will be aiming to defend the title he won in 2013 however he will have to overcome another quality field to see his named added to the trophy for a second year.

Making his professional debut on home soil this week is local favourite Oliver Goss.

Goss is a past champion of the WA Open having won the title as an amateur in 2012. Since then he has gone on to finish runner-up in the 2013 US Amateur, finish low amateur at The Masters and play in the US Open.

Other West Australian favourites teeing up this week include Michael Sim, Brody Ninyette, Jason Scrivener, Stephen Dartnall, Kim Felton and Matt Jager.

Adding some experience to the field is three time European Tour winner Peter O’Malley, two time Australian Masters champion Bradley Hughes and PGA TOUR winner Andre Stolz.

Following the John Hughes Nexus Risk Services WA Open Championship the PGA Tour of Australasia will be joined by the European Tour at the ISPS HANDA Perth International before travelling to Kalgoorlie for the WA Goldfields PGA Championship.
