Having grown up on the Sandbelt, Ogilvy’s passion for the BetEasy Masters stems back to his childhood when he was a marshal at the tournament.

"I actually marshalled the Masters a couple of times. I’d do the quiet sign on the second tee," said Ogilvy.

"Probably the best memory from doing that was on a Sunday, they needed more than just the five or six marshals on each hole when Norman came through."

"So, I just followed.  Carried my quiet sign inside the ropes and followed."

"I mean, inside the ropes with Peter Senior and Greg Norman when I was 12 or 14 maybe.  It was great fun."

A self confessed golf nerd, Ogilvy is involved in many facets of the game, from being a US Open champion to his golf course design company.

With his course architects hat on he sang the praises of Metropolitan Golf Club while as a player he is itching to get on the course.

"It’s obviously one of Australia’s gems," added Ogilvy.

"There’s a few things at Metropolitan that just don’t happen anywhere else and they are great."

"The Sandbelt is so much more interesting than so many other golf courses because there’s holes that 3 iron is the right club off the tee and driver is right club on some holes."

A winner on the PGA TOUR this year, Ogilvy believes he is a serious contender for the Gold Jacket this week.

"Obviously I feel like I can win the tournament.  Melbourne is home and I feel like if I play well on this sort of course, I should do well," added Ogilvy who is second favourite behind Adam Scott with the bookmakers.

"Adam’s the favourite but I feel like I can win and I feel like there’s probably a tonne of other guys in the field that if they go out and play well, they can win."

"There’s a lot of pretty established and proven players in this field that if they play well, they are hard to beat, as well."

The BetEasy Masters will be played at Metropolitan Golf Club in Melbourne from 20-23 November.

Being played for a prize purse of AU$1,000,000 the winner also receives Official World Golf Ranking Points and becomes fully exempt on to the PGA Tour of Australasia for the remainder of this season plus a further two years.

Tickets are available at: www.australianmasters.com.au with free entry for children under the age of 16, accompanied by a paying adult.
