Murdaca headed to Augusta via Kalgoorlie

Asia-Pacific Amateur Champion Antonio Murdaca has arrived at Kalgoorlie Golf Course ready to contest the WA Goldfields PGA Championship from 30 October – 2 November.

Asia-Pacific Amateur Champion Antonio Murdaca has arrived at Kalgoorlie Golf Course ready to contest the WA Goldfields PGA Championship from 30 October – 2 November.

It has been a whirl wind few days for South Australian Antonio Murdaca who on Sunday earned a place in The Masters Tournament after winning the prestigious amateur tournament hosted by Royal Melbourne Golf Club.

"It’s been great, it’s been so exciting, I still can’t believe I am playing The Masters next year," said Murdaca.

"It’s going to be such an amazing experience for me. I am so thrilled and I just can’t wait for next year."

But before he graces the hallowed fairways of Augusta National, Murdaca will tee it up in the Australian outback for the WA Goldfields PGA Championship.

The Kalgoorlie desert layout is a stark contrast to the links layout of Royal Melbourne and renowned green of Augusta.

But it is a challenging layout that demands respect according to Murdaca.

"The course is immaculate I wasn’t expecting this," added Murdaca.

"I feel like its narrow, you can’t miss the fairway because there is no buffer zone."

"You hit it off a fairway at Royal Melbourne and you’re in the trees, you hit it off the fairway here and you’re in with the kangaroos."

This will be the 19-year-old’s fourth appearance on the PGA Tour of Australasia in 2014, all of which are preparing him for the biggest tournament of his career, the 2015 Masters Tournament.

"Every course I play and every tournament I play is good experience for the future," added Murdaca who has made the cut in two of his starts on Tour this year.

"I have come in quite confident after last week’s win. I am just going to try to hit some good shots and hopefully the results take care of themselves."
