Gaunt leads the field in Kalgoorlie

Victorian Chris Gaunt will take a two shot lead into the weekend at the WA Goldfields PGA Championship being played at Kalgoorlie Golf Course.

Victorian Chris Gaunt will take a two shot lead into the weekend at the WA Goldfields PGA Championship being played at Kalgoorlie Golf Course.

Posting his second round of 5-under 67, Gaunt is 10-under the card and two shots clear of the field.

Describing his round as slow, Gaunt made six birdies and just one bogey in the second round but believes he is starting to understand the course.

"It all just fell into place today, I didn’t do anything wrong but it was a bit slow," said Gaunt.

"I had to get it up and down a few times and I had a holed a few six footers for par."

"The more I am playing the course, the more I am getting used to where I want to hit the ball."

"I seem to be seeing the ball on the green and reading the lines quite well."

Believing he played better in the first round, Gaunt is hoping his putter warms up in time for the weekend.

"I hit 18 greens in regulation yesterday and the longest putt I had was about 12 foot on the front nine."

"I probably should have birdied the whole front nine, but I only got three."

"If I can get the putter fired up and do the same as I did yesterday then there is plenty out there."

Gaunt is yet to win a PGA Tour of Australasia tournament and is aware that the pressure will be on him over the weekend.

"I am nervous, always nervous, it’s probably just expectation," added Gaunt.

"It’s been a while since I have had a decent round during a tournament; I just want to finish it off well."

Sitting two shots behind Gaunt is Peter Cooke (SA), Ben Campbell (NZ) and West Australian Amateur Jarryd Felton who fired a course record equalling round of 7-under 65 today.

Rounding out the top-5 on the leaderboard on 7-under the card is Ryan Lynch (VIC) and Tim Hart (QLD).

The second round cut was made at 3-over the card with 58 Professionals and two amateurs making the weekend rounds.
