Cullen’s whirlwind week continues in Sydney

South Australian Nick Cullen turned his year around by winning the BetEasy Masters last week.

South Australian Nick Cullen turned his year around by winning the BetEasy Masters last week.

"NickSince he made that perfect bunker shot, which is sure to be engrained in Masters History, Cullen’s life has been a whirlwind.

"It hasn’t sunk in, it’s such a big turnaround to where I was last week to now," said Cullen.

"I had no idea what next year held and now it’s given me so many opportunities."

"That bunker shot I have relieve a bunch of time, everyone asks about it but I don’t think I was thinking."

"I worked out what shot I wanted to hit and I just hit it. I think because I wasn’t thinking that’s why it was such a good shot."

The win has yet to sink in but Cullen is already onto his next dream experience, a pairing with World Number 3 Adam Scott and World Number 14 Jordan Spieth at the Emirates Australian Open.

"Playing with Scotty is unreal; he is the man in Australia," added Cullen.

"He is the biggest influence on golf since Greg Norman; to play with him; to be part of that circus will be unreal."

Like every Australian Cullen is in awe of Adam Scott but he is perhaps every more thrilled to be playing alongside Jordan Spieth.

"I’ve followed Jordan closely the last little while, I’m fascinated with him," added Cullen.

"He is in contention so often; you can always count on him to shoot good scores."

"I respect how consistent he is and how well he has done, the way he came up; he didn’t have status and then got in the playoffs."

"I have looked him up on YouTube; he is obviously doing something right at young such age, its rare."

While it’s a heady group to be playing in, Cullen will be firmly focused on his own game with thoughts of winning the PGA Tour of Australasia Order of Merit on his mind.

"I am hoping I can make the most of the next few weeks, to move up the Order of Merit and get some more starts," added Cullen.

"That’s something that I didn’t think was possible before last week."

The winner of the Order of Merit earns an exemption into The Open Championship, having already competed in the Major in 2012; Cullen would love to do so again.

"You want to play the Majors that’s where all the best players are and that’s every kid’s dream," added Cullen.

"But to play at St Andrews, the home of golf, for The Open would be a really special experience and I’ll do doing everything I can to try and make that happen."
