City Golf Club to host QLD PGA in three year deal


The PGA Tour of Australasia today announced City Golf Club Toowoomba as the host venue for the Queensland PGA Championship for a further three years, commencing with the 2015 event to be played from 19-22 February.

"CityBy the PGA Tour of Australasia confirming City Golf Club as host venue of this prestigious tournament for another three years, the region will continue to reap the rewards of the associated economic impact, not to mention other various community benefits.

Over the past six years, the local community has embraced the event, creating a festival of golf throughout the tournament week.

The PGA alongside City Golf Club are committed to ensuring the tournament remains a truly community event, with the 2015 tournament incorporating pro-ams, hospital and school visits as well as engaging entertainment to ensure people of all ages and golfing prowess can be part of the action.

"We are thrilled to secure the commitment of City Golf Club Toowoomba as the home of the QLD PGA Championship for a further three year term," said Simon Butterly, General Manager Tournament Division for the PGA of Australia.

"Proposed changes to the clubhouse including the addition of a driving range will further enhance facilities available to the players, club members and general public and the recent course changes will again ensure player’s games are truly tested."

"Through tournaments such as the QLD PGA Championship, we aim to not only deliver a world class event for players, and exciting golf for spectators, we are here to work with local stakeholders to promote their facilities and bring golf to the community."

City Golf Club is proud to continue to host the QLD PGA Championship and bring professional golf to the region.

"As a non for profit organisation, we recognise that the City Golf Club plays a significant role in the community and given the support we receive from the region, we feel we owe it to the people of the Darling Downs to provide events of the highest calibre," said Ed Britnell, President of the City Golf Club.

The QLD PGA Championship will be the third event on the 2015 PGA Tour of Australasia schedule, with the field vying for their share of the $120,000 prize pool.

Past champions include Greg Norman, Ian Baker-Finch and more recently Steven Bowditch, Brad Kennedy as well as defending champion Anthony Summers.

Coming off the back of a successful 2014 PGA Tour of Australasia season a quality field is expected for the region’s premier sporting event.
