On a day when damaging winds and record rain was predicted to hit the Perth coast and make the PGA Championship qualifier a test for all 34 players, the only storm that eventuated was Damian Chatterley storming around the seaside Sea View Golf Club leaving daylight between him and the rest of the field.

""Chatterley’s 5-under par round of 66 included an eagle and six birdies to win his way to the Championship Final in the last week of October at the amazing Hamilton Island Golf Club.

“I’ve been once before and can’t wait to get back, I love the course and how tough it play’s. Today was similar conditions (strong wind) as to what you can get at Hamilton Island so I’m hoping I can emulate today’s play over there. There’s not many better places to host a golf event both on and off the course, ” said Chatterley.

The second spot on offer to the WA men ended up in a five-way playoff all shooting a 1-over par 72. The spot was eventually won by Darren Garrett over Glenn Paul making par on the second playoff hole. Garrett has also played the final once before and was very determined to get his way back there in 2017. “I’ve got unfinished business over there,” said Garrett referring to the course getting the better of him in his first attempt at the Championship.

Katelyn Must also confirmed her spot in the field as WA’s female participant matching the score of the 5 men in the playoff shooting a 1-over 72.

“I’ve heard so much about the place and now to have this opportunity to go and play this great event is awesome,” said Must. The eventual winner of the female event will earn their spot into the 2018 Vic Women’s Open.
