Peter O’Malley has taken an outright lead in the Shepparton BMW Victorian Senior Open at Yarrawonga Mulwala Golf Club Resort.

""An up and down opening two rounds, with the change of course from round one to round two throwing a spanner in the works for many in the field who had difficulty adjusting to the changing conditions.

Brad Burns set the pace early in the opening round when he scored 5-under 67 but his outright lead was short lived when Australian Senior PGA Champion Martin Pettigrew equalled Burns’ round of six birdies to be 6-under coming to the 18th, a wayward drive on the last hole saw him make bogey and equal to Burns.

In the afternoon session of round one, Queenslander Craig Warren took advantage of the perfect conditions firing six birdies and an eagle for a round of 65 along with David Merriman who was one-over-par after three holes but then rallied with eight birdies in the last 15 holes.

Peter O’Malley shot 66 to hold on to outright third position after round one, he was able to hold his nerve in what was a tough round two for the field on the Yarrawonga Murray course.

The longer and tighter track was accompanied with a difficult wind to read resulting in a frustrating round for most.

O’Malley’s score of 69 was one of the better of the day with Mike Zilko posting the score of the day on 68, enough to see him hold second position with two rounds remaining.

Peter Senior’s consistent play has seen him hold on to outright third position and looks poised to strike today.

Merriman and Warren struggled in round two shooting 74 and 75 to hold on to outright fourth and fifth respectively.
