Legends primed for Blue Lake

Blue Lake Public Golf Links will host some of the biggest names in Australian golf for the Barries Water Centre South Australian PGA Senior Championship starting today.

Blue Lake Public Golf Links will host some of the biggest names in Australian golf for the Barries Water Centre South Australian PGA Senior Championship starting today.

As part of the E-Z-GO Legends Tour, the tournament will be run over two days in the form of a pro-am, giving local and visiting amateurs the opportunity to tee it up with a Pro.

The $25,000 of prize money on offer has attracted some of the biggest names in Australian golf.

"We have a strong field assembled for the event and all players are looking forward to returning to Blue Lake," said Andy Rogers, Legends Tour Coordinator at the PGA of Australia.

Entries include defending champion Michael Harwood and past Australian Open champions Rodger Davis and Peter Fowler.

They will be joined by international stars, Perry Parker from the United States and 1978 British Open Runner up, Simon Owen.

"All is in readiness for the Championship which promises to be a great event for Mount Gambier.  The course has been prepared well and it is in great condition and I am proud once again to bring Professional golf to Mount Gambier", said Bill Burley, Blue Lake Golf Links Manager and Championship organiser.

Blue Lake is no stranger to hosting PGA tournaments after hosting a Legends Tour Pro-am last year and the South Australian PGA Championships in 2007 and 2008.

A formal dinner will be held on Thursday evening while the Carlton Draught Marquee should be a lot of fun for sponsors and spectators on Saturday afternoon.

A partnership with the City of Mt Gambier has provided a great platform to grow the event into the future.

"It is my honour and privilege to extend the warmest welcome to a broad field of professional and amateur competitors, enthusiasts and their families to Mount Gambier for the 2016 SA PGA Seniors Championship," said local Mayor Andrew Lee.’

Spectators and interested parties can contact the Bill Burley at Blue Lake Public Golf Links on (08) 8725 6198 for further information.
