Peter Fowler and David Merriman are joint winners of the $70,000 David Mercer Classic at Killara Golf Club, the richest single day event on the Ladbrokes PGA Legends Tour.

""The pair recorded 3-under rounds of 69 to claim the prestigious trophy which in played in honour of the Legendary David Mercer. An industry icon, Mercer holds Life Membership with both Killara Golf Club and the PGA of Australia and is still one of the most respected figures in golf

“David Mercer is the epitome of professionalism, he is the figure for which all PGA Members strive to replicate," explained David Barker, NSW/ACT Senior State Manager with the PGA of Australia.

Current Club Professional Greg Hohnen also paid homage to his mentor who he credits for his own success, having been engaged with the Club for over 40 years himself.

“David took me under his wing and taught me what is meant to be a Club Pro, he mentored me and now I hope to do the same," said Hohnen referring to his partnership with PGA Member Patrick Fairweather as joint Club Professionals.

Other notable scores in the David Mercer Classic included Peter Senior (72),recent US Champions Tour player David McKenzie (72) and Ian Baker-Finch (75).

The next David Mercer Senior Classic will be staged in April 2018, with a stellar field again expected to compete.
