Richard Backwell and Glenn Joyner have both secured a start at the 2015 Senior Open Championship on the European Seniors Tour after progressing through qualifying yesterday.

Backwell fired a 4-under 68 to finish second behind English amateur Stephen East at Berkshire Golf Club in Ascot, while Glenn Joyner shot an even round 73 to tie for fifth at Foxhill Golf Club in Surrey.

The 18-hole qualifier saw 419 competitors tee it up in the hope of joining some of the legends of the game already in the field for the 29th Senior Open, including Tom Watson, Bernhard Langer, Sir Nick Faldo and Miguel Angel Jiménez.

Backwell and Joyner join a strong Aussie line up including Peter O’Malley, Peter Fowler, Peter Senior and Mike Harwood who are also in the field.

The 2015 Senior Open Championship will be played at Sunningdale Golf Club in Berkshire from Thursday 23rd July – Sunday 26th July.
