Ninyette steps up a level

Brody Ninyette’s third place finish at the 2013 Perth International has been a career changer for the 23-year-old, a start at this week’s WGC event in China among the benefits of his best week as a Professional.

"BrodyThe West Australian finished fourth on the PGA Tour of Australasia Order of Merit last year thanks largely to his Lake Karrinyup performance and that stat has helped open doors ever since.

Ninyette earned a spot at the Dunhill Links Championship last month and will join four other Australians this week in China to play for the biggest purse of his career.

The US$8.5 million event awards US$1.4 million to the winner and with no cut for the 80 strong field Ninyette will earn a minimum US$40,000 for his week’s work.

While unlikely to be a winner this week the tournament offers Ninyette an opportunity to measure his game against some of the best in the world with six of the world’s top-10 teeing up including World No 2 Adam Scott.

Scott has played just once since the PGA TOUR season ended in September with an indifferent finish at the Japan Open last month and with this being his first appearance since the event became a WGC in 2009 his form is unknown.

John Senden, Matt Jones and Marc Leishman round out the Australian contingent with Senden the best performed so far this season.

The Queenslander is 22nd on the FedEx Cup standings having played two of the first four events and comes to China after a top-10 last week in Malaysia.

Matt Jones also played in Malaysia but a horror opening round of 81 cruelled his chances long before the weekend.

He recovered to play sub- par golf the rest of the week but will likely need to step up a gear to contend this week.

Leishman also played last week in Malaysia but only broke 70 once and finished mid-field so will be looking to improve on that this week.
