Jeffress ready to take on the world

The first World Golf Championship of the year gets underway this week when the world’s best golfers take on Trump National Doral – Blue Monster for the WGC Cadillac Championship.

"SteveThe world’s best players have assembled to contest the title with the 74 man
field featuring six Australians; Jason Day, Adam Scott, John Senden, Geoff
Ogilvy, Greg Chalmers and Steven Jeffress.

Steven
Jeffress makes his debut in a World Golf Championship and is looking forward to
the challenge that the Blue Monster always presents.

"It’s my
first WGC event so I’m really looking forward to it," said Jeffress.

"I
haven’t set specific goals but mentally I’ve told myself that if I play my best
golf I can still win the tournament."

"I
normally drive well, generally play well on tough courses and I read somewhere
that this course is the second toughest on the PGA TOUR, so that shapes up well
for my game."

Jeffress earned
his place in the field courtesy of his second place finish on the PGA Tour of
Australasia Order of Merit (OOM).

"I must
admit I was disappointed for a couple of days after missing out (on winning the
OOM)," added Jeffress who won the inaugural Fiji International.

"Then I
had some time to take stock of what I’d achieved in the year and remind myself
that I won a major event and it was my best year ever on the PGA Tour of
Australasia."

"Now my
expectations are even higher."

A regular
on the PGA Tour of Australasia since 1999, Jeffress this week is reaping the
benefits the Tour has to offer.

"The
incentives available on the Tour are fantastic," added Jeffress.

"It might
not be the size of the US or Europe, but the prize money available is still
excellent and then you have the chance to qualify for a WGC event like I did."

"If you
win the Order of Merit, for example, it’s amazing for your career."

Greg
Chalmers, the 2014 Order of Merit champion echoed those sentiments following
his win at the Australian PGA Championship.

"I don’t have full status (on the PGA TOUR) so
winning the money list in Australia I think that helps me an awful lot," said
Chalmers.

"Just the fact that I’m going to get three
extra events in a year when I’m probably only going to get 15 anyway off my category
is very exciting and I’m forever thankful to our Tour for those kinds of
exemptions."

"It’s very important for players and gives a
lot of chances.  I’ve got some other
buddies who are going to go to Q-School and things like that who are getting
that off the back of our Tour and that’s how I got my start."

"That’s how I got into
Europe; that’s how I got into America and I don’t forget that.  I think it’s really cool."
