Marc Leishman thought he would never play golf on the PGA TOUR again when illness struck his wife Audrey a week before the Masters.

 
Leishmans subsequent withdrawal from golf’s biggest tournament of the year was insignificant in comparison to what he and his family were experiencing.

In an interview with the New York Times this week, Leishman described the ordeal as his worst nightmare, but it has given the Australian Professional a clearer perspective of what is important in life.

"A lot of people look at golf as life or death," Leishman said. "But I’ve just been through one of those."

"You can’t help but think things are not going to turn out very well, but I kept telling myself I’ve got to keep it together here."

It is hardly surprising that a chip shot, which stopped short of the hole on the 15th in the second round of this week’s World Golf Championships, didn’t faze the Australian after a confronting month away from the green.

"If I don’t pull a shot off, it doesn’t matter," he told the New York Times

It may affect his livelihood, he added, but "it’s not going to affect my life."

"Hopefully my perspective stays like this forever."

Leishman has been in terrific form throughout round one and two of the World Golf Championships – Cadillac Match Play; one would imagine his recent misgivings are serving as a motivating force.

With two wins in two rounds, Leishman is proving a hot contender heading into the third round of the World Golf Championships – Cadillac Match Play along with John Senden and Matt Jones.
