Asian Tour Card looking likely for Holman

After a superb top 10 finish at last week’s Australian Open Nathan Holman has now likely secured 2015 playing rights on the Asian Tour courtesy of a third place finish at the Indonesia Open.

"" Holman, in just his second year as a Professional, finished three shots behind winner Padraig Harrington in Jakarta and picked up a cheque for US$47,250.

That pushed his earnings to US$66,348 for the year, moving him to 51st place on the Order of Merit and, with just two events left for the season, a likely top 60 finish and guaranteed status next year.

Holman started the week brilliantly with an eagle at his very first hole Thursday but made his big move on Friday with a bogey free 8-under 63.

With weather delays affecting the tournament and scoring becoming increasingly difficult at the weekend the 23-year-old hung in bravely with two sub par rounds Saturday and Sunday and gave himself a genuine chance to win.

Holman was one of five Australians to finish in the top 10 with Jake Higginbottom, Terry Pilkadaris, Scott Hend and Sam Brazel all claiming a share of 7th place eight shots behind the winner.

For Pilkadaris and Higginbottom the good play was timely as both started the week outside the top 60 on the Order of Merit and in danger of losing status.

Pilkadaris has now moved to 53rd while Higinbottom, who like Holman had a great week at the Australian Open last week, is up to 67th.

Higginbottom finished 60th and claimed the final card last year and will need to keep the good form going the next two weeks if he is to have full status in Asia again next year.

Tasmania’s Kalem Richardson, who had posted two top 5’s in his last three starts before this week, opened with a brilliant 63 in Jakarta but struggled with a back injury and faded the rest of the week.

He eventually finished T49 but at 47th on the Order of Merit should have already done enough to keep his card for next season.

Andrew Dodt (T15), Scott Barr (T19), Blair Wilson (T24), Unho Park, Chris Gaunt and Kieran Pratt (T38), Adam Groom (T49) and Kunal Bhasin (T68) were the other Australians to make the cut.
