Can someone clarify why the winner of this weeks Victorian Open only received 6 points on the Official World Golf Ranking. The following quote is from their website (at http://www.owgr.com/about_us/default.sps?iType=425

"Minimum points levels for the winners of official Tour events have been set at 6 points for the Canadian, OneAsia, South American and Korean Tours (points to 6th place), 12 points for the European Challenge Tour (points to 14th place), 14 points for the Asian, Sunshine and Nationwide Tours (points to 17th place), 16 points for Australasian and Japanese Tours (points to 19th place) and 24 points for European and the United States Tours (points to 27th place)."

I thought the Victorian Open was on the Australasian Tour and therefore the winner would have received 16 rather than 6 points. The OWR website also says the tournament is on the PGA Tour of Australasia.

I am not that familiar with golf in Australia but based on the 6 points awarded I am wondering if the Victorian Open is part of the One-Asia Tour.

Any clarification is appreciated.

Prior to 2012, the State-based Championships on the PGA Tour of Australasia did not receive any Official World Golf Ranking Points and point were only awarded to the larger tournaments; those being the Australian PGA Championship presented by Coca-Cola, the JBWere Masters, the Emirates Australian Open and the BMW New Zealand Open (a minimum of 16 points each and a minimum of 32 for the Australian Open being the Tour’s ‘flagship’ event).

Following a successful application to the Board of the Official World Golf Rankings in 2011, the State-based Championships will receive Official World Golf Rankings in 2012 onward. Given their relative size when compared to the larger tournaments, it was decided that the State-based Championship would receive the minimum number of points that the Official World Golf Rankings allocate to events; that being 6 points to the winner and points allocated down to at least 6th position.

So, all PGA Tour of Australasia now receive Official World Golf Ranking points however there is a difference between the number of points that the respective tournaments receive. Obviously, the website of the Official World Golf Rankings has not been updated yet to reflect this.
