McKendrick Breaks Through

David McKendrick has broken through for his first win on the Southern Tour at today’s North Western Golf Classic at Goonawarra Golf Club.

McKendrick who turned professional at the start of 2011 played fantastic golf and according to one playing partner should have easily had a few better such was his ball striking. McKendrick made an impressive seven birdies and the one bogie which unfortunately came on the last hole and left him with the worry that he may have let the win slip.

“After putting out I could see on the leaderboard that Daniel was at -5 and thought there was every chance he may have made a late birdie or two. But in the end 66 was good enough and I am extremely pleased to win today” McKendrick said.

The Daniel being referred to was Daniel Popovic who has been in a rich vein of form of late having recently taken out the final stage of Australasian Tour School. Popovic was just shy of what would have been his first victory on the Southern Tour with a solid 67. With the form he has shown in the last month that victory is sure to be just around the corner.

Lots of fun was had by a large number of sponsors and guests who played as part of the morning group and then spent the afternoon on the ‘Party Hole’ making sure that the afternoon players endured a nervous tee shot on the tough par 3 tenth across the water. All was in good humour and the new innovation to the event really added to the atmosphere of the day.

The next event on the Southern Tour is the Safety Beach Pro-Am on Saturday 21st of February.
