Raine & Horne Tasmania Golf Club Pro-Am

Houston and Hancock Tie in Tasmania

Simon Houston and Craig Hancock have tied for the win after the Raine and Horne Tasmania Golf Club Pro-Am

On opposite sides of the draw Hancock and Houston returned great scores of 2 under par 70 in difficult conditions. This was the first Pro-Am at Tasmania Golf Club for 12 years and the professionals relished the opportunity to tackle the testing layout in tournament conditions. A steady breeze all day provided a test for most of the players in the field with only four players able to shoot par or better.

Houston from WA had the clubhouse lead after the morning round and was three in front of his nearest rival. With a round that contained four birdies and two bogies Houston was very satisfied with his round.

“This is my third win since November on the Pro-Am circuit and it was great to have a consistent round here today and tie for the win. I was very impressed with the course today and thought someone would come in with a better score than me this afternoon.” Houston said.

Hancock round started with a birdie in the afternoon field, and with three other birdies on the front nine with a solitary bogey turned in three under par. Hancock was however unable to keep the momentum going on the back nine with bogeys either side of a birdie on the 14th hole.

“I was hoping to hold it together after a great start to the round, but couldn’t quite get the closing birdies I was after.” Hancock said.

In his presentation speech Hancock welcomed the visiting professionals and commented that this is the strongest fields that have played the Tasmanian Pro-Am circuit for a number of years.

Tasmanian Clint Rice, who recently secured his OneAsia tour card for 2012 finished in a tie for third with Queenslander Daniel Stevenson on even par 72.

Laura Richards who has just commenced her PGA Traineeship at Claremont Golf Club finished in a tie for fifth on one over par 73 in her first Tasmanian Pro-Am.

The next event on the Tasmanian swing of Southern Tour is the Cancer Council Claremont Pro-Am on Friday 27th of February.
