PGA Trainee Program

PGA Trainee Program

The PGA Trainee Program is open to golfers either male or female who have a passion for the sport of golf. Working alongside a fully qualified PGA Member, this three year program will provide you with invaluable on-the-job training and experience at a golf facility, whilst at the same time offering formal education in a variety of vocational areas.

On completion of the program you will receive:

  • Certificate II in Sport (Career Oriented Participation)
  • Certificate III in Sport (Career Oriented Participation)
  • Diploma of Sport (Coaching)
  • Vocational Golf Coach Accreditation through the Australian Sports Commission
  • Full Vocational Membership of the PGA of Australia

  • Club Fitting and Repair
  • Retail and Business Management
  • Golf/Pro Shop Operations
  • Playing

PGA Bridging Program

PGA Bridging Program Body Text

The PGA Bridging Program is operated by the PGA Academy and is designed as a golf-specific educational opportunity for current or former tournament professionals. Subject to successful completion of course requirements, candidates will be eligible for Full Vocational Membership of the PGA of Australia.

The Bridging Program will be completed over twelve (12) months - beginning in January and concluding in December.

Whether you are interested in a playing or coaching career, or a career in administration (i.e. General Management, Golf Operations), PGA IGI programs and courses will assist you in getting there.

The PGA IGI prepares its graduates for a career in the business and management of golf as an industry.

Owned by the PGA of Australia, the IGI has articulation agreements with multiple universities across Australia. These links provide the opportunity to choose different career pathways within the golf industry and business sectors.

Our graduates have been placed in positions as head golf professionals, teaching professionals, tournament directors, golf administrators, general managers of golf clubs, and sales representatives of leading golf club and apparel companies.

Programs:
Along with our partners, we offer a variety of programs and courses from a vocational education and training (VET) level, through to a Higher Education level. Programs and Courses include:

  • Diploma of Golf Management from PGA IGI which articulates into a Bachelor of Business majoring in Sport Management (GU) - 3 years.
  • A Diploma of Golf Management – 1 year.
  • A Diploma of Golf Management via distance.
  • Elite Golf training and Short Courses.
  • Intermediate Golf Management Practices (Certificate IV in Sport & Rec.) via distance.
  • English – Golf for International students only.

You will also receive range passes per semester at Emerald Lakes GC, shirts from Footjoy and a Titleist carry bag at orientation.

MEMBERSHIP TO THE PGA OF AUSTRALIA August 2009

Vocational Membership
Current Full Members of recognised World PGA’s (i.e. PGA of Great Britain, US PGA, Canadian PGA or NZ PGA) are eligible to apply for Vocational Membership with the PGA of Australia.

Applicants must ensure they have made the appropriate enquiries through the Australian Government’s Department of Immigration in order to confirm they are eligible to take up employment and reside within Australia.

To make an initial enquiry regarding your eligibility for membership, please email Sue McCall, Membership & Continuing Education Coordinator at smccall@pga.org.au.

Once your eligibility to apply for membership has been confirmed, specific academic and playing information will be requested and must be submitted along with a non refundable application processing fee of AU$250.00 inc GST. For those successful in being offered membership, this fee will be deducted from your initial joining fee.

Please note, information and participation in the following events are reserved for Australian PGA Members only:

  • Access to the PGA’s Job Central Positions Vacant Notice Board
  • PGA endorsement for any such vacant positions
  • Entry into PGA of Australia sanctioned Pro-Ams
  • PGA approved Public Liability and Professional Indemnity Insurance coverage

 

Temporary Tournament Membership

If you are a current member of the British, US, Canadian or NZ PGA or are a member of a recognised PGA Tour you will be eligible to apply for Temporary Tournament Membership with the PGA of Australia. This category of membership is for the purpose of gaining access to tournaments in Australia (event entry eligibility conditions may apply) only.

Current subscriptions are $110 for play in one event only, plus event entry fees. Should you wish to play in additional tournaments, 3 months temporary membership can be taken out on a pro-rata full membership basis. Event entry fees will also apply. Temporary Tournament Membership cannot total an excess of 12 months over any two year period.
