Field complete for Championship Final

Monday, 16 November 2009

With all the Regional Finals now completed, all eyes turn to the Sunshine Coast to see who is good enough to take out the Championship Final at Twin Waters in December.

Queensland qualified their last teams through to the Championship Final with Regional Finals at Rydges Capricorn Resort and a mixed and women’s final Club Pelican. It was a tough day at the office for the teams at the Rydges Capricorn Regional Final, with the team from Capricorn Country Club taking out the day with a net score of 57.6. Club Pelican hosted two events on Sunday, and the team from Kingaroy Golf Club set the tone early with a narrow win in the mixed event, just holding off a fast finishing team from Mt Warren Golf Club by 3 tenths of a shot. The Women’s State Final then teed off in the afternoon in tough conditions and was won by Maryborough Golf Club, who shot the lowest gross and net score.

NSW also found their last representatives to compete at the Final, with Woolgoolga, Tura Beach and Yowani all qualifying along with the women’s team from North Ryde Golf Club. Tura Beach sent an ominous warning to competitors after they shot a staggering 16-under 56 at their regional final at Federal Golf Club. Muswellbrook also joined the party of convincing victories, winning the gross by 5 shots and coming up trumps with a net score 2 and half shots clear from second place.

So as all the horses have been given their barrier, all competitors are looking at the form to see who will be the major threats to their tilt at the Championship Final. Broken Hill Golf Club has to start as favourites after they produced the lowest qualifying score of 50.8. The Tasmanian team from Kingston Beach also has definite claims and will be keen to keep the trophy in the Apple Isle after shooting 51.4 in their qualifier. Equally, the women’s team from Lakelands Golf Club in WA, will deservedly start as favourites in the Women’s Championship Final after they shot an impressive 52.9 in their Regional Final.
