American Kyle Stanley leads the Farmers Insurance Open by one shot after Friday's second round.

Stanley, 24, followed up on his first round 62, after which he had a share of the lead, by shooting a four under round of 68 on the south course at the Torrey Pines course in La Jolla.

Brandt Snedeker trails Stanley after he had the low round of the day, a 64 on the north course.

Stanley recovered from a double-bogey on the 14th hole to roll in five more birdies.

"I got off to a good start and it was tough to take," Stanley said.

"But you've just got to be patient out there. I feel like I've got a pretty good game for this golf course and just had to focus on executing that."

Snedeker hit five consecutive birdies midway through his second round after starting on the back nine.

After chipping in for birdie on the 17th hole, he followed up with birdies on 18, 1, 2, and 3. He also finished strongly, posting birdies on holes eight and nine to card a 13-under score after two rounds.

South Korean Sang-Moon Bae, 25, made seven birdies on the day, including the par 5 18th hole on the south course.

Defending champion Bubba Watson shot a 71 to be 10 shots behind the leader.

Phil Mickelson failed to make the cut.

The four-time major winner, who has won three times in his career at Torrey Pines, shot a four under round on the north course after his five-over 77 in the first round, which included seven bogeys.
