Thursday, 17 May 2012

Aaron Pike has overcome a slow start on the final day to claim the 2012 Blackwater Mineworkers Club Pro Am. A solid round two score of four under 68 was good enough for a 12 under par total for the two days and a four shot victory.

Pike who started the day with a one shot lead and did not have the best start to the day with a bogey at the first, but he soon found the form that took him to the course equalling round of 64 on the opening day. Pike was never headed over the final holes and finished four shots ahead of Matthew Ballard, Adam Blyth and Paul Hayden who all tied for second.

Pike was quick to comment on how much the Blackwater Golf Club had improved over the past 12 months. “What a great couple of days it has been for me, a course record and a win. The greens are some of the best that we will play on all year and by the scores that have been shot over the past two day’s it is real credit to the green staff and what they have achieved. I am now looking forward to continuing my current form through the Runge Mining Town Series and hopefully improve on my third placing in last year’s series”.

The Runge Mining Town Series will now head to the Emerald Pro Am which starts on Saturday, with Aaron Pike taking a one shot lead into over Drew McLellan and Paul Donahoo. The rest of the professionals will be looking for a strong finish at Emerald to move their way up the leaderboard.

It has been a great achievement from the Emerald Golf Club to again host a Pro Am after being devastated by floods over the past five years All of the professionals are looking forward to giving back to a club that has given so much to professional golf and golf in general over the past 30 years.
