While Adam Scott’s Major was not to be overnight, Brian Thorburn, Chief Executive Officer of the PGA of Australia, took time out this morning to congratulate the strong Australian and New Zealand contingent in the 141st Open Championship field.

Thorburn, who attended last week’s Open Championship at Royal Lytham and St. Annes, arrived back in Australia this morning, offering praise to the strong Australian contingent and of course, Adam Scott.

“On behalf of the PGA of Australia, I would like to congratulate Adam Scott on his performance in the 141st Open Championship. While Adam is understandably disappointed with the result, he should be commended on his performance throughout the last week.”

“There were thousands of Australians glued to their TV in the early hours of Monday morning, and I hope Adam takes consolation from the overwhelming support he has received. Australian golf is in great hands, and Adam’s Major is just around the corner.”

“I would also like to extend my sincerest congratulations to Ernie Els, a deserving champion, and a great friend to Australian golf.”

Thorburn also noted the performances of Geoff Ogilvy, Steven Alker and John Senden who finished strongly on Sunday.

Ogilvy shot a final round of 3-under 67 to finish at even par in a share of ninth position, while New Zealander Steven Alker finished just inside the Top 20 at 1-over.

With a fourth round of two-under par, John Senden finished in T34 at 4-over par.

“The depth of Australian talent is evident at all levels of the game. Regardless of the challenges we may face, the next ten years should be very rewarding for Australian golf, and the likes of Adam, Geoff, Steven and John will continue to lead the way. We look forward to welcoming our boys home to contest our PGA Tour of Australasia tournaments at the end of the year.”

Of the other Australians, Greg Chalmers finished at 6-over, Aaron Baddeley at 10-over and Brendan Jones at 11-over.

Brad Kennedy, Aaron Townsend, Nick Cullen, Marcus Fraser, Ashley Hall, Robert Allenby and Marc Leishman missed the weekend cut.

Adam We are so proud of you and happy to have an Aussie in the Final of the Open. Try not to read the garbage printed and stay true to yourself. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger. You are an asset to the game and we love watching you play and learning from your swing. Rhonda
