McKenzie claims Meriton Invitational

Victorian David McKenzie has won the Meriton Sydney Invitational after a final round of one under par at St Michaels Golf Club. McKenzie finished the 54 hole event at seven under par and one stroke clear of Paul Spargo, Mitchell Brown and Brendan Jones.

McKenzie maintained his composure recording three consecutive rounds under par at The Lakes (-4), Avondale (-1) and finally St Michaels to hang on for a one shot victory and claim the winner’s cheque.
The fast finishing Spargo fell just one stroke short after trailing by five shots heading into the final round. He found the blustery conditions of the coastal St Michaels course to his liking recording a five under par round of 67 and secured him the runner-up finish.
The event concluded with a gala dinner and prize presentation ceremony however it was the $50,000 cheque presented to the Westmead Children’s Hospital Charity that gained the loudest applause. The tournament has now raised over $400,000 for charity since its inception in 2004.
