Monday, 30 April 2012
Luke List has claimed his maiden professional victory at the Nationwide Tour's South Georgia Classic, with Australia's Scott Gardiner making a final round charge to finish tied for sixth.
List started Sunday's final round equal at the top of the leaderboard with fellow American Woody Austin but pulled away from the 48-year-old with two birdies on the first two holes.
A bogey on the 12th hole gave List's pursuers something to get excited about but the 27-year-old from Tennessee hit back immediately with an eagle on the 13th and then a birdie on the 16th, winning the South Georgia Classic through a final round score of four under.
List finished on 16 under overall, two strokes ahead of Brian Stuard, while Austin who shot, a final round of one over, managed to finish third on 11 under for the tournament.
Gardiner was the best-placed of the Australians at the Kinderlou Forest Golf Club in Valdosta, Georgia.
The 36-year-old from Coolangatta shot a four-under 68 on Sunday, his best round of the tournament.
Gardiner finished on nine under overall, tied with three others for seventh.
Fellow Queenslander Andrew Buckle finished a further shot back on eight under, while Peter Lonard (seven under) was the only other Australian to finish in the Top 20.
