Australian Brendan Jones is US bound after finishing on top of the leaderboard at US Open sectional qualifying in Japan on Monday.
With scores of 66 and 68 to finish 10-under the card, Jones claimed one of the six places on offer to the 40 man field, continuing his great form
Jones started his 2012 Japan Golf Tour season with a win at the Token Homemate Cup and, with a further two top 10’s, he currently leads the Order of Merit.
Played at the Lake Hamamatsu Country Club, Jones was the only Australian to qualify for the US Open after compatriots Ryan Haller, Matt Griffin, David Gleeson and Kurt Barnes finished outside the qualifying score of 6-under par.
The 37-yeard-old Jones will head to The Olympic Club in San Francisco from 11 – 17 June for just his second US Open start.
Back in 2004 Jones missed the cut in his first US Open appearance played at the Shinnecock Hills.
A further 11 sectional qualifying events will be held in the US as well as one in the UK in the lead up to the US Open.
Other Australians already exempt through to the 2012 US Open are Aaron Baddeley, Jason Day, Geoff Ogilvy, Adam Scott and John Senden.
