Tahiti Open Champion - Ryan Fox
New Zealander Ryan Fox has claimed the Tahiti International Golf Open Championship by one shot over Victorian Terry Pilkadaris. Fox finished the four round tournament at an impressive 23 under par after rounds of 66, 69, 62 and 68.
Beginning the day one shot clear of Pilkadaris, Fox quickly extended his lead to three shots thanks to six birdies and two bogeys in his outward nine holes. On the back nine Pilkadaris tried but was unable to close the gap despite birdying the 72nd hole to fall just one shot short.
In addition to prize money in excess $18,000, Fox will also take home a precious Keishi natural pearl necklace worth over $20,000 sponsored by fare du Collectioneur de la Perle.
“This is amazing” claimed Fox.
“It feels great to get this win and it’s something that I will never forget. I’ve had a great time in Tahiti, it really is a fantastic tournament."
Fox turned professional through the PGA of Australia Qualifying school in late 2011 and has only played a handful of professional tournaments despite an illustrious amateur career where he represented New Zealand.
Tahitian Professional Vaita Guillaume finished in outright third after a final round of three under par 69. Guillaume made a nervous start to his round with two bogeys before settling with birdies at 3, 5, 9. Guillaume closed his tournament with three consecutive birdies for a four round total of 21 under par.
The tournament will officially close with the presentation ceremony and prize giving this evening.
