Crawford and Fox declared joint winners
Sunday, 15 July 2012
Adam Crawford and Daniel Fox have been declared joint winners of the 2012 M Group Tyre and Mechanical City of Mackay Open after heavy rained forced play to be abandoned in today’s final round.
After the first two rounds had to be abandoned due to unseasonal rain, play finally got underway on the Saturday and with eight under par 63’s both Crawford and Fox would find themselves a top the leaderboard at the end of the day.
With more than 200mm of rain falling over the week and the rain persisting to cause havoc in today’s final round, play had to again be abandoned in the final round which played into the hands of the Crawford and Fox who were later declared joint winners of the City of Mackay Open.
With the Open being forced to be decided over one round, Daniel Fox although happy to be declared a joint winner was really feeling for the Mackay Golf Club. “I am really feeling for the Mackay Golf Club and the organising committee, as I know how much work goes into running an event like this. This has been a difficult event for everyone, but I congratulate everyone involved and I look forward to returning to this great club in 2013”.
With seven professionals all within one shot of the lead heading into the final round, the event was set up for an exciting finish with many spectators looking to make the most of having some of Australia’s leading professionals playing on their home course. “Unfortunately it has been difficult to see our premier event reduced to one round. Many of our club members and sponsors of the event had been looking forward to seeing some of Australia’s best golfers and it is just so disappointing to only have been able to complete one round. Although it is tough to take at the moment, we don’t have control of the weather and the club will work together to ensure the event is a successful one next year” Club Professional Jeffrey Reid had to say.
Professionals will now make their way down the coast for the City of Rockhampton Pro Am to be played on Tuesday at the Capricorn Country Club, before the Rockhampton Pro Am gets underway on Thursday.
