After the weather issues of yesterday Wollongong turned on a beautiful day for the first round of the NSW PGA Championship.

The morning field is all complete and the afternoon field safely underway at the Wollongong Golf Club.

The story of the morning belongs to amateur Jake Higginbottom who turned on an outstanding display off golf which started with a birdie and continued in much the same fashion for the rest of the round.

Finishing on eight-under the 17-year-old is currently tied with the more experienced Andre Stolz.

Stolz who has had two wins on the OneAsia tour this season is comfortable leading a professional tournament heading into the weekend and will look to this experience to maintain his position.

The two are quite familiar with each other as Higginbottom is the captain of the NSW Junior Boys Team which Andre’s son Zac Stolz also is a member. Stolz Senior has shared quite a few practice rounds with the team.

Zac Stolz is also in the field for the NSW PGA Championship after pre-qualifying on Monday and posted a two over the card.

Braith Anasta, the man everyone came to see, was off to a solid start with a great tee shot on his first but nerves got the better of him and a slip in concentration saw a triple bogey on the 14th. Anasta battled to come back from this shaky start but unfortunately ended on 8 over the card.
