Allan off the pace at Cox Classic
Monday, 6 August 2012
Australian Steve Allan finished well off the pace at the Cox Classic as Ben Kohles produced a nine-under final round to win the tournament in Omaha.
In a blistering final day characterised by numerous big scores, 22-year-old Kohles became the first player on the Web.com Tour to win his first two professional starts, having claimed victory at the Children's Hospital Invitational last weekend.
Kohles posted a nine-under 61 in a flawless final round that saw him claim victory on 24 under overall.
The win sees him climb to 13th on the money-earner's list, but it wasn't a perfect day for the youngster, who still didn't register the best score on Sunday.
That honour went to second-placed South African Dawie van der Walt, who had to settle for an 11-under final round after producing a bogey on the final hole.
Van der Walt still finished three strokes adrift of Kohles at 21 under for the tournament.
For the Australian contingent, Allan posted a five-under 66 on the final day to finish eight strokes adrift of Kohles at 16 under overall.
He finished two strokes ahead of Peter Lonard (68), while Bronson La'Cassie (71, 12 under overall), Scott Gardiner (72, 11 under), Alistair Presnell (73, eight under), Michael Sim (72, seven under) and Nick Flanagan (68, three under) were further down the leaderboard.
