Victorian Jack Wilson has taken out the NSW/ACT PGA Trainee Championships in sensational fashion recording consecutive birdies on his final two holes to claim the trophy by two strokes.

Wilson began the day two shots clear of New South Welshman Bradley Wilson however quickly opened up a four stroke lead thanks to three birdies in his opening six holes.

As the remainder of the field seemed to be going backwards, Wilson continued to scramble for pars through the middle of his round and looked to have one hand on the trophy.

In the penultimate group, fellow Victorian Anthony Smith was working his way into contention and quickly picked up three shots and a share of the lead when Smith birdied and Wilson double bogeyed the par five fourteenth.

Wilson quickly composed himself recording pars at 15 and 16 before stepping up under pressure to secure the win with two birdies on 17 and 18.

“It was a real pleasure playing here this week. The course was fantastic, as was the local support. Playing in front of a gallery makes it all the more special” explained Wilson in his acceptance speech.

Wilson is in his second year of his PGA Traineeship at Kingswood Golf Club in Victoria and is building a solid playing record having won the Victorian Amateur Championship prior to turning professional in 2010, claiming the Rich River Classic in 2011 and now the NSW/ACT Trainee Championship in 2012.

Toronto Trainee Professional Clayton Bridges finished in equal third position on three over par after a final round of one over par 73.

The 2012 Championship was the fifth consecutive year Hawks Nest Golf Club has hosted the event and the will again be the host of the 2013 tournament.
