Weekend wrap: Senior leads by example

A round–up of this weekend’s tournaments saw Peter Senior produce the best result of all the Aussies.

Senior tied for fourth with an impressive final round of 63 at the 73rd Senior PGA Championship held at Harbor Shores, Michigan.

Only one other Aussie, Peter Fowler, endured the last two rounds posting scores of 78 and 71 for a final round score of 11-over.

In the BMW PGA Championship, Andrew Dodt was the best of the Australians, finishing the four days at two-over after a final-round of 72.

Dodt ended the tournament seven strokes ahead of fellow Australian Richard Green, who recovered somewhat from a 79 on Saturday to post 73 in his final round.

Brett Rumford, though, posted scores of 79 and 78 in the final two rounds.

Geoff Ogilvy finished best out of the Aussies at the PGA Tour's Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial one-under tied for 19th. Other Aussies included John Senden (tied for 37th) Greg Chalmers (tied for 47th) Marc Leishman (tied for 57th) and Aaron Baddeley (tied for 63rd).

Robert Allenby, Stuart Appleby, Aaron Baddeley, Greg Chalmers, Jason Day, Marc Leishman, Geoff Ogilvy, Adam Scott and John Senden are in the list of Aussies playing in this week’s PGA Tour Memorial Tournament presented by Nationwide Insurance in Dublin, Ohio with a share of 6.2 million to be won.

Meanwhile on the Japanese Tour, Kurt Barnes ended the Diamond Cup Golf tournament well, shooting a 69 to finish 12th on Sunday.

Barnes finished with an overall score of six-under-par and was eight shots off winner, Japan’s Hiroyuki Fujita.

Other Aussies featured were Steven Conran (tied for 17th) and James Mclean (tied for 29th).

In the Ladies European Tour, Australian Bree Arthur shot a seven-under third round of 65 on Saturday to climb into a share of the lead at the Ladies German Open.

Arthur's round on Saturday included six birdies and an eagle as she jumped 14 places to the top of the leaderboard at 10 under. Arthur finished tied for fourth shooting a 73 on Sunday.

Arthur, alongside fellow Aussies, Karen Lunn, Frances Bondad, Nikki Garrett, and Stacey Keating will feature in this week’s Deloitte Ladies Open in Rotterdam, Netherlands.

Aaron Price, Nick Flanagan and Cameron Percy are among some of the Aussies playing in this week’s Nationwide Tour - The Rex Hospital Open to be held at the TPC Wakefield Plantation, Raleigh, North Carolina.
