Junior Clinic at Capel Primary School
In conjunction with the regional events of the WA Pro-Am circuit PGA members are running junior clinics at local schools and golf clubs.
With support from the WA State Government’s Department of Sport and Recreation PGA professionals will run 15 clinics across regional centres of Western Australia through May and June.
As the Pro-Am series heads north in the coming weeks from the South West towns of Harvey, Capel and Bunbury to Geraldton, Newman, Port Hedland and finally Broome the coaching sessions will hopefully reach over 300 children.
The first clinics at Harvey Golf Club, Capel Primary School and Bunbury’s Sanctuary Resort were very well received and have given some children their first exposure to the game of golf.
Along with qualified teaching pros a number of touring professionals including Jarrod Moseley and Michael Foster have taken the opportunity to demonstrate their skills and answer questions about playing tournament golf.
Andrew Gott, teaching professional at the Links at Kennedy Bay, has helped run the clinics in previous years and is again impressed by the children, “the kids in these regional areas are very athletic and so keen which makes them fun to teach”.
Bunbury Golf Club will host a clinic later today running alongside the 54 hole South West Open being played at the course over the long weekend.
Three clinics are scheduled for schools in Geraldton next week as the tour is in town for the $50,000 Spalding Park Open .
