Dawie van der Walt won the inaugural Tshwane Open by two shots from Darren Fichardt courtesy of a five-under final round of 67 on Sunday.

South African Van der Walt, playing on home soil at the Copperleaf Golf and Country Estate near Centurion, had been one of four players tied for the lead following the third round on Saturday.

He sunk four birdies, one eagle and just a single bogey for his last 18 holes to reach 21-under overall, enough to top the leaderboard and pocket the 237,750-euro prize for first place.

Fichardt had rocketed into contention with an eight-under third round of 64 at the co-sanctioned European Tour and Sunshine Tour event, but he could only manage a three-under 69 a day later to fall just short, ultimately settling for outright second.

The other overnight co-leaders struggled badly, Charl Coetzee's even-par 72 seeing him slip back to a share of fifth place.

Mark Tullo fared even worse, the Chilean stumbling to a five-over 77 and tied 27th on the leaderboard.

South African Louis de Jager was outright third on 18 under, one shot ahead of American Peter Uihlein, who claimed fourth.
