Trainees tied at Hawks Nest
Monday, 20 August 2012
Round one of the 2012 NSW/ACT PGA Trainee Championships commenced at Hawks Nest Golf Club today with five players tied for the lead at one under 71.
New South Welshman William Urasaki from Asquith Golf club is one of the five whom after taking nearly a month long break from the game due to recently becoming father holds a share of the lead.
“I surprised myself with the way I played. I hadn’t touched a club for a month until last week but it’s great to be playing again and in contention.” Urasaki said.
Jacob Adams (NSW), Brad Wilson (NSW), Jack Wilson (VIC) and Anthony Smith (VIC) currently sit alongside Urasaki in the leading group.
Order of Merit leader and pre-tournament favourite Kyle Grant (NSW) is well within striking distance after an opening round of even par. Grant already has a State Trainee Championship win and runner-up finish to his name in 2012 in the Queensland and Southern Trainee Championships respectively. Grant is in a tie for 6th position alongside Robert Weinert (NSW).
With favourable weather conditions forecast for the remainder of the week, the trainee professionals will have the opportunity to showcase their skills, all vying for their share of the $35,000 prize money
