For the ninth straight year, Queensland’s Sunshine Coast will play host to more than 100 PGA professionals when the 2010 FKP Peregian Springs Series starts tomorrow at Woodford Golf Club.
Continuing with the success of the changes to the series structure in 2009, the professionals are required to play all 10 rounds involved in the series, though they will also be able to remove their worst score(to par). The change brought about a close finish last year with Ryan Haller taking out the prestigious title and the $4,000 bonus prizemoney.
In 2010 the series has been increased, not only in the number of rounds, but the prizemoney also. The player with the lowest aggregate score after removing their worst round(to par) will take home $5,000 with Second receiving $1,500 and Third $750
“It is one of the highlights for the year for us professionals. We get to play on some great golf courses, for good prizemoney, all in one of the best parts of Australia”
2010 will see the addition of both the Bribie Island and Headland Pro Ams. After not staging an event in 2009 during a tough year for many of their sponsors, long time Headland Golf Professional John Victorsen, talked about how both WIN TV and Hot/Zinc FM have helped to deliver to their major sponsors.
“The media partners in the series help provide our major sponsors Harvey Norman with far greater exposure, not to mention bringing the best professionals to town to entertain our guests”
The Sunshine Coast is seen amongst the professionals as one of the greatest places to visit on tour, and with more than 100 professionals taking part in this year’s series it is a great opportunity for the communities of the Sunshine Coast to witness some great golf, plenty of birdies and be able to play with a professional athlete in the heat of competition.
“I believe it is a culmination of the superb weather as well as the people on the Sunshine Coast that greet us with their hospitality, that makes this part of the tour so enjoyable” said QLD PGA Tournament Coordinator Justin Maker. “If I had to choose one part of the tour to highlight just what the Sunshine Tour is all about, the Sunshine Coast would be it knowing that the area allows the past, present and future stars of our game to put on a great show.”
