Rumford in hunt at KLM

Saturday, 11 September 2010

A brilliant five-under round by Brett Rumford has seen the Australian surge into contention after the second round of the KLM Dutch Open at Hilversum.

While Belgian Nicolas Colsaerts and India's Shiv Kapur are tied for the lead at eight under, Rumford goes into the weekend well in the hunt just two strokes further back.

Peter O'Malley (three under) and Scott Strange (even par) were the only other Aussies to make the cut.

Andrew Dodt missed the weekend action by two strokes while Richard Green (three over) and Rick Kulacz (six over) were well back.

Colsaerts followed his opening round 62 with an even par round on as he was joined at the top of the leader board by Kapur, who shot a two-under-par 68 in his second round.

The leaders are trailed by a trio on seven under made up of American Todd Hamilton, Sweden's Christian Nilsson and Frenchman Jean-Francois Lucquin, while a group of eight players are just a shot further back on six under.

German Martin Kaymer, whose three-under-par 67 took him to six under, was the only player not to make a bogey in their second round.

Some of the other names lurking on six under include Dutchman Joost Luiten, Argentina's Daniel Vancsik and Englishman Danny Willett.

Nilsson's 65 was the pick of the second round, while Kapur's 68 featured birdies at eight, 12 and 17 but a bogey at the par-three 15th.

The 15th also proved Colsaerts' undoing and, after being three under after the first 14 holes, his wayward drive and double bogey there brought him right back to the pack.
