QLD Pros honoured with Centenary awards

Some of Queensland’s finest ever golfers were honoured at Royal Queensland Golf Club last night as part of the PGA of Australia’s Centenary awards program.

In total 29 PGA professionals from across Queensland were named as achievement award recipients, recognised for their contribution to Australian golf and the PGA across a number of areas.

The award recipients honoured by the Queensland Division of the PGA were (in alphabetical order);

Ian Baker-Finch, Peter Barry, Len Beck, Garry Calder, John Downs, Charlie Earp, Gary Edwin, Mike Ferguson, Danny Freyling, Mark Gibson, Peter Heiniger, Brian Jones, Paul King, John Klatt, Rodger Davis, Wayne Grady, Erroll Hartvigsen, Graham Marsh, Peter McWhinney, Alan Murray, Greg Norman, Rod Pampling, Adam Scott, John Senden, Peter Senior, Bryan Smith, Ian Triggs, John Victorsen Snr and Randall Vines.

PGA Centenary Patron and award recipient Greg Norman, although unable to attend last night’s function, sent a message to all the award recipients acknowledging their place within Australian golf history.

“You are all among some of the most highly skilled PGA Members the world over and I hope will take great pride in being part of such an historic occasion,” said Norman.

PGA Chief Executive Officer Brian Thorburn added to Norman’s sentiments saying;

“PGA Members Australia wide have been the cornerstone of the Australian golf industry for the last 100 years and I congratulate all tonight’s award winners on their part in this illustrious history.”

“You are all among some of the greatest PGA Members who have lived and contributed to Australian golf, and for that you, your family and your club should be justifiably proud.”

The Queensland PGA Member function was attended by over 100 Professionals from across the state with many taking to the Royal Queensland fairways before the dinner.
