With the US Open just a week away sectional qualifying is underway with a number of Australians teeing it up in Ohio today.

Queensland Matthew Guyatt has made his way to the States in search of qualification into his first Major.

Having won the NSW PGA Championship in Wollongong late last year, Guyatt was exempt through to the final stage of the qualifying process.

Teeing it up today at the Scioto Country Club, Guyatt will be able to draw on the experience of his playing partners Davis Love III and Ben Curtis who have each won a major. Love won the PGA Championship in 1997 while Curtis won The Open Championship in 2003.

“I didn’t realise that winning the NSW PGA had so much weight,” said Guyatt, obviously excited by the opportunity.

“To get through to final qualifying for the US Open was surprising, then to see the place in the qualifying field that got me.”

“I am drawn to play the 36 hole qualifier with Davis Love III and Ben Curtis, two major winners!”

Joining Guyatt at the Ohio qualifying are fellow Australians; Robert Allenby, Ashley Hall, Nick O’Hern, Marc Leishman, Mathew Goggin, Stuart Appleby, Bryden Macpherson, Greg Chalmers, and Rod Pampling.

A number of Australian’s will also tee it up at one of the other 10 sectional qualifying events around the US including;

• Adam Crawford and Aaron Townsend at Lake Merced Golf Club
• James Nitties and Aron Price at Woodmont Country Club
• Alistair Presnell at Lakeside Country Club
• Jamie Arnold, Mitchell Krywulycz and David Lutterus at The River Club
• Gavin Cole, Mark Hensby, Nathan Green, Matthew Jones and Steven Bowditch at Germantown Country Club
• Anthony Summers at Village Links of Glen Ellyn.

The US Open will tee off on the 11th June at The Olympic Club in San Francisco.
