Corey McKernan has officially launched the second annual Betstar Melbourne Golf Invitational to be played at Woodlands on Monday 12 November 2012.
Last year’s inaugural event claimed the title of “Victorian Pro-Am of the Year – Open Prize Purse” by the PGA of Australia at the annual Victorian Golf Industry Awards and McKernan declared yesterday that this year’s event would be bigger and better.
“2011’s Betstar Melbourne Golf Invitational was a culmination of years of hard work and it resulted in a lifetime dream coming true," said McKernan.
"Again this year you will see some of Australia’s biggest sporting stars and celebrities together with some of Australia’s best Touring Professionals taking to the greens.”
McKernan also announced that of one of the most inspirational golfers he has ever seen, Manuel Del Los Santos will make his first appearance in Australia at the 2012 Betstar Melbourne Golf Invitational.
“He has been as close as China and Japan playing in prestigious international pro-am’s but has never ventured to Australia, until now."
"We are absolutely wrapped to be bringing Manuel to Melbourne in November to take part in the tournament."
Manuel Del Los Santos is testament to the fact that a proven attitude and a great swing can go a long way in the game of golf.
Have lost his left leg in a motor bike accident, his love of golf and the movie “The Legend of Bagger Vance” gave him the ability to get on with life and do the best he can.
“When you feel good the impossible becomes possible. When I play golf I smile like a baby, I find my second leg when I am out on the course,” Manuel, who plays off four, has been quoted as saying.
In another development sure to impress the Professionals in the field is that the prize purse in 2012 will be increased to $75,000, making it the richest one day pro-am in Australia.
To finish off a top morning of entertainment, Michael Roberts also hosted a panel featuring Wendell Sailor, Mark Bosnich, Brendan Fevola, Brad Hughes, Dean Jones and Wayne Carey talking all things sports and their planned preparations for this year’s Betstar Melbourne Golf Invitational.
Mark Bosnich former Socceroo was the only panel member that competed in the inaugural Betstar Melbourne Golf Invitational. He enjoyed the day so much that he can’t wait to return for this year’s event.
