Friday, 1 March 2013
Tristan McCallum has won the 2013 Great Southern Swing Katanning Golf Club Pro-Am, shooting a superb 2 under par 70 in testing Katanning Golf Club conditions.
McCallum tees off the 10th at Katanning
Starting the day on hole 10, McCallum rattled off two birdies in his opening three holes to setup his solid two under par round.“I putted well today, hit the ball decent and overall very happy to win under testing conditions”, said McCallum. “Playing on two types of sand greens proved difficult today although I managed to limit the three putts with help from my playing partners”.
Stephan Herbert of Royal Fremantle managed a close second on 71 followed by Andy Gott and David Elliot, both finishing one over 73.
The first of Western Australia’s Pro-Am events for the year, the Great Southern Swing Katanning Golf Club Pro-Am is a new addition to the WA’s regular Pro-Am circuit, last held in 1994. “We are so pleased to have pulled off a fantastic day for the golf club, equally pleased to have the PGA sanction the event for the first time in 14 years” said David Meyer, Tournament Director.
Returning to Katanning some 14 years later as the defending champions, Chris Gray managed a commendable 78 yet is looking for redemption at the next WA Pro-Am event, The Cleanaway Albany Classic Pro-Am at Albany Golf Club, 2 March.
