Jeff Maggert is tied with Matt Every for the lead at the Sony Open in Hawaii after a bogey-free third round of 64.

Maggert drew level with US compatriot Every at 12 under thanks to a second consecutive eagle on the par-five ninth at the Honolulu course.

The 47-year-old now has a chance to win his first tournament in six years as Every's two-under 68 allowed him to close the gap.

The congested leaderboard suggests a number of players are still in the hunt with 25 players within five strokes of the leaders.

Charles Howell III, who has had five finishes in the top five at the Sony Open, gave himself another opportunity with a 66.

He is in a group of three with Johnson Wagner and Zimbabwean Brendon de Jonge at 10-under.

D.A. Points fired a 64 to move within three shots of the leaders along with Duffy Waldorf, while 11 players, including Steve Stricker, are a shot further back on eight under.
