Spain's Pablo Larrazabal leads the Lyoness Open on eight under after a rain-interrupted first day in Atzenbrugg.

A large group of players failed to complete the opening round at Diamond Country Club outside Vienna due to heavy rain and will have Larrazabal to chase when they resume on Thursday.

The 29-year-old Spaniard did not drop a shot in his opening-round 64.

Larrazabal birdied consecutive holes on the front nine and then added four more birdies plus an eagle on the par-five 13th hole to hold a one-shot lead when play was suspended.

Denmark's Thorbjorn Olesen is on seven under with four holes to play to finish his first round.

The 22-year-old, who finished tied for ninth at last week's Open Championship, has yet to card a bogey after 14 holes.

Olesen hit seven birdies on Wednesday, including three straight on the front nine to sit one stroke clear of Thomas Levet and Wil Besseling on six under.

Frenchman Levet has completed 14 holes, while Besseling, of the Netherlands, has five holes to play in his first round.

Anthony Wall of England is next on the leaderboard at five under, and he is followed by a group of four players a further shot back – Scotland's Alastair Forsyth, Englishman Oliver Wilson, Argentine Emiliano Grillo (13 holes played) and Chile's Felipe Aguilar (12 holes played).

David McKenzie is the leading Australian at three under after 12 holes, while Brett Rumford is one under through 10.
