Jones clings to lead

Wednesday, 25 August 2010

Kurri Kurri trainee professional Matthew Jones holds the lead going into the final round of the NSW PGA Trainee Championships at Hawks Nest despite a third round of two over par 74 in blustery conditions. Jones is at one under par and holds a two stroke lead over Sydney’s Ryan O’flaherty.

The trainee professionals have been at the mercy of Mother Nature the entire tournament with either wind or rain making the tight Hawks Nest layout extremely difficult and birdies a rarity.

"Its playing tough out there, the wind is really blustery. You have to be on your game" expained Jones.

Defending Champion Andrew McCormack has played himself back into the tournament recording an even par 72 to be seven shots back while Monash’s Peter Thomas finished with the round of the day signing for a one under par 71 leaving him in sixth position and six shots behind Jones.

The final round concludes tomorrow with the leading group of Jones, O’flaherty and Edwards teeing off at 9:00am.
