Thursday, 21 June 2012
Karratha Country Club welcomed over 80 players to the 2012 L J Hooker $15,000 Pro-Am with blue skies, a light breeze, and a golf course in championship condition.
Tournament Director Gina Hipworth welcomed the sponsors, guests and members who joined 22 PGA Professionals from WA, NSW, VIC, S.A. & QLD competing for the $15,000 prize money.
James Carr was on fire with four birdies on the front nine, followed up with another four birdies on the back.
A lone bogie on the 12th was the only blemish on a 7-under 65 round but did not worry him as he went on to birdie the next three holes.
Damian Chatterley secured second place with an impressive 5-under 67 which was highlighted by an eagle on the 12th hole.
Michael Foster continued his good form with a 4-under 68 and was joined by Simon Pope in third place.
Leading WA players included the top three WA/NT Order of Merit players, Simon Houston (69), Michael Foster (68), and Damian Chatterley (67).
Tournament drawcard and current WA PGA Champion, Michael Wright struggled to a 1-over par 73 finishing in a share of 13th place.
A further ten players will join the field as the circuit moves to Port Headland for the BHP Billiton $50,000 Golf Classic to be played this Saturday and Sunday over 36 holes.
